Starts - 4th World University Boxing Championships

4th October 2010, Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Today, the Fourth World University Boxing Championship has started in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The Championships will be staged in 10 weight categories with bouts of four two-minute rounds with a one-minute rest between rounds, according to the current rules of the AIBA.

Total of 77 athletes are ready to compete from 15 countries including Belarus, Costa Rica, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Netherland, Moldavia, Mongolia, Poland, Russian Federation, Turkey, Slovakia, Thailand and Ukraine.

The city of Ulaanbaatar, the Capital of Mongolia was selected to host the 4th World University Boxing Championship from October 4th to 10th, 2010. The right to host this Championship was decided and awarded at the EC Meeting of FISU/International University Sports Federation/ held in Turin, Italy in January 2007.

Mr. Lambaa. S, President of Organizing committee & Minister of Health, Mr. Igarashi Hisato, Assessor - Executive Committee representative of FISU, Mr. Adam Kusior, Chairman of AIBA Coaches Commission, Mr. Abdul Manov Eduard, Chair CT Boxing of FISU, Mr. Shen Zhen, Member of CIC of FISU, Mr. Kallio Tapio, Member of CM of FISU, Mr.Laurent Briel, Director of World University Championships FISU and other official delegates attended to the opening ceremony. Adam Kusior, Poland, Chairman of Coach Commission of AIBA came as a technical delegation of International Amateur Boxing Federation. He was working as a technical delegation in Beijing Olympic Game and is a president of Poland Boxing Federation.

During the opening ceremony Mr.Lambaa, President of OC & Minister of Health expressed his sincere gratitude to the members of FISU for giving Mongolia this appreciated opportunity to organize the 4th World University Boxing Championship in Ulaanbaatar and stated "This Championship has great significance in terms of providing considerable contribution to the International University Sports and Mongolian Boxing history, and it has a unique feature of being held after the 29th Olympic Summer Games in Beijing, China in 2008 where Mongolian athletes successfully participated by winning the first Mongolian Olympic gold medal, also after the World Boxing Championship in 2009 where the first Mongolian World Boxing Champion was born."

Mr. Igarashi Hisato, Assessor - Executive Committee representative of FISU, expressed that "This Championship, organized under the auspices of FISU, is part of our association's 2010 program. Some 29 championships are to be held this year, in different countries and in different sports. FISU actively follows and supports these events, enabling student-athletes from all countries to meet in a spirit of understanding and peace that contributes to the achievement of high level technical results. In this sense, your presence here is already an achievement in its own right.", during his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony.

In the past, World University Boxing Championship was taken place first in 2004 in Antalya, Turkey followed by Almat, Kazakhstan in 2006 and the third in 2008 in Kazan, Russia. 4th World University Boxing Championship is held from Oct 5th to Oct 8th at the Central Sports Palace starting at 3.00pm, the semi-final on Oct 9th and the final on 10th at 1.00pm.
